Smith Victorious at Corydon Open

Article & Photo by Brandon Miniard, Corydon Democrat The girls' wrestling season in Southern Indiana kicked off Thursday as grapplers from six different schools competed in the second Corydon Central Open. Charlestown won the event with a combined score of 124 followed by Henryville scoring 69 to finish second. The host Lady Panthers finished third with 64 points, while North Harrison finished fourth with 53. For North Harrison, Kujo Serna had the best showing as she finished 2-1 at 145-155, defeating teammate Jaccklyn Miller via injury default before winning a 3-0 decision over Charlestown's Lexy Rudolph. Her lone loss came after being pinned by Corydon Central's Quiara Lathan in 21 seconds. Ally Bolen went 1-1 on the evening at 115-120, dropping an overtime decision to Charlestown's Ella Shaw 9-6. She bounced back by pinning Henryville's Alana Brewer in 2:23. She began by pinning Charlestown's grappler in 1:28 before getting the pinfall over North Harrison's Jacey Harr in 46 seconds. She finished by pinning Charlestown's Janice Placido in 2:20.
