Corydon gets wins over NH, Crawford

y Brandon Miniard A week later than usual due to weather, Crawford County hosted local rivals Corydon Central and North Harrison last Tuesday for their annual tri-dual at the Ron Ferguson Gymnasium. The night began with the host Wolfpack facing off against North Harrison, which saw the visiting Cougars win by a score of 59-12. At 150, the Cougars' Sullivan Bray pinned the Wolfpack's Wyatt Farris in 3:49, while Gavin May did the same to Tommy Barron at 215 in 2:44. Case Pixley took the heavyweight bout over Caleb Tosh with a pinfall in 1:08. At 157, Charles White defeated Michael Mitchell via technical fall by a score of 20-5. The Wolfpack's Karmann Smith picked up a pair of wins in the bout, pinning North Harrison's Jacey Harr in 60 seconds and Jackie Miller in 22 seconds. The Cougars then turned their attention to rival Corydon Central on the mat, which saw the Panthers pull off a 62-6 victory. North Harrison's lone win on the boys' side came at 157 when White pinned the Panthers' Dane Naiman in 46 seconds. The Panthers got pinfall victories courtesy of Tryton Dean over Aiden Howard (132, 1:45), Luke Enlow over Waylon Yokum (138, 1:03), Gavin McNutty over Zachary Turner (144, 0:57), Jonas Sutton over Cooper Radcliff (175, 1:56), Alijah Gohl over Oxley Ferguson (190, 0:26), Zayven Kalisz over May (215, 1:32) and Dantae Chavez over Pixley (285, 0:41). At 150, the Panthers' Drake Ditto defeated Bray with a 7-3 decision while Corydon's Leo Garcia earned a 19-3 technical fall victory over the Cougars' Roland Young at 165. Along with Corydon Central's Quiara Lathan and Maddie Stockstill picking up wins on the night, the Panthers' junior varsity squad defeated Crawford County 46-18. All three wrestling squads concluded the previous week on Saturday, which saw both the Panthers and Cougars take part in the Pirate Double Duals at Charlestown while the Wolfpack competed at the Evansville Reitz Invitational. The Panthers hosted Forest Park for a dual yesterday (Tuesday) before competing in the Phil Thrasher Falls City Invitational at New Albany on Saturday morning. The Cougars and Wolfpack, meanwhile, will head to Johnson Arena in Jeffersonville this weekend for the Jeffersonville Classic, which will start on Friday at 6 p.m.
